Thursday, May 14th Learning Outline

good morning

We will have our Google Meet at 10 am to consolidate our learning on Wednesday’s task of tracking our time online and elapsed time
and play a Gimkit to summarize some of our new time-telling skills. Instructions are on Google Classroom or the help section of the
blog listed above.

LANGUAGE (1-1.5 hours):

Hey! Have you done the reading assessment on Raz Kids yet? If not, please log in and complete it! Here are the instructions again:

    1. Week 10 of Reading Comprehension posted on the blog - complete Day 4 today

    2. Read for at least 20 minutes via Raz Kids, Epic, or your choice of book - I'm going to announce a reading competition today at our Meet!

    3. New Words Their Way posted last Monday. Thursday is a catch-up day, or a day to enjoy the games on Spelling City!  Lucky for us, Spelling City is one of the companies that is allowing free and full access. So I will send you login information to your email (and your parents) so you can enjoy the full experience of Spelling City and all the games that come with the premium account! Check your email for instructions if you are done the rest of the work from this week!

    4. Digital Citizenship: In both 4A and 4B this week, students will be exploring what is acceptable, responsible communication online, making safe passwords, phishing and email scams/spam, and most importantly - cyberbullying.

Hopefully, you have caught up on the previous few day’s work and have tracked your online tech use. We will discuss this further at our Google Meets at 10 am.

Today is one of the most important lessons of our Digital Citizenship week… today we talk about being awesome upstanders, how to deal with cyberbullies, and steps to take in various situations, because bullying doesn’t just happen in class.

So, what do you need to do?
1. Follow through these slides:

2. Go to Google Classroom under Digital Citizenship/Coding and Click on the "Be a Super Digital Citizen" for your lesson materials. Fill out the attached documents and draw me your superhero (see documents for instructions). When you are done, send me a picture so I can share it in our Digital Classroom next week!

3. Make sure you complete the Google Form attached on the assignment on Google Classroom and click "turn in" when you are done.
***If you need some help with drawing superheroes - I've posted some supporting videos under the art tab at the top ;) There might be some good DPA as well that has to do with Superheroes and Being an Awesome Upstander!

MATH (1 hr):

We have finished our Addition and Subtraction unit - please ensure you have wrapped up the booklet provided on Google Classroom and finished the Quizizz assessment!

We are starting on Time this week. A few students made a pie plate clock over the weekend. If you have not created a clock yet, that is totally okay, I have also provided a simulation clock in the slides and posted in the digital classroom (see below)

I have posted the next booklet for them on Google Classroom as well as a slideshow to help you progress through the various tasks. Due on Monday! The slideshow includes various video recordings, lessons, and games to assist you with your understanding.

Practice 20 minutes daily on Prodigy, XtraMath, or Study Ladder Math.

SCIENCE (1 hr): Please note this lesson is applicable for Wednesday & Thursday

Students are learning about Food Webs, Food Chains, and Predators and Prey this week.

1. There are some base lessons to assist you with the next part of this week's lesson from Monday. Please ensure you look those over before progressing to today’s lessons. (Posted on Monday’s instructions)

2. You are completing pages 5-8 of your Science Booklets (Pages are listed as 19-20, 23-24 on the bottom right side of the booklet). I’ve provided supplementary books as well as some supporting videos in addition to my Video Recorded Lesson that are posted in our Digital Classroom. Found below.

The shared Flipgrid can be accessed by clicking here. You will need to login with your school issued email like before. If you need assistance with Flipgrid here are two videos to help out! Flipgrid for Students Click Here or Click here for using it on your phone.

Today’s task is to watch the Lost Princess video Mrs. Taylor has posted on Flipgrid which summarizes quite nicely a lot of the different things students in this age group contend with on a daily basis with internet usage and instant messaging. Thank you to Gianna who already did this! Watch the video and record your reflection about what the Lost Princess did!
