A work in progress.. just like yours should be! Remember - you will need a lot of information to ensure you are able to fully explain yourself. It is better to be over-informed than to have to keep researching after your research due date!
Introduction: Ancient Inca Civilization
Who were the people that ruled?
What time period did they rule? 1400 to 1533
Geography:
Where is your civilization located? Western South America - basically running from north to south in South America
How did the people adapt to their environment? They built their civilization high up in the Andes mountains, which had some pretty extreme and cold weather. They build bridges from vines to cross.. if people were trying to attack, they just burned the bridges with them on it!
List some physical features:
High and rugged mountains, lush rainforests, attached to the Pacific Ocean (so coastal)
What was the climate like?
Since it spanned such a large area, the climate and weather varied from north to south.
How did they come into power? There was another leader in power, but when faced with a war from neighboring civilizations, Pachacuti stuck around and asked the gods for assistance to help him, and his warrior buddies, so the gods transformed the rocks just hanging around into Inca warriors.
How long did their power last? Until 1532 and the Spanish Conquest.
Just a reminder, if you are looking for the newsletter or the math pages, they are now on the dropdown menu. You will also find the Words Their Way list numbers there, if you want to practice using spelling city!
There are so many animals that are at risk of being extinct - which means they will no longer be living on Earth! These are what we call "endangered animals" because they are close to no longer being able to survive.
Here is a list of animals for your "Species at Risk" science page that you can research: https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status
Watch the video below before you research your own endangered animal!
We have a math test tomorrow.. most students are done the homework. If not here are the pages.. I will send parents a copy of the answers so you can check tonight and ensure you are right for tomorrow. I will send them on class dojo. Pg 172-174 # 1, 3-6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16 :)
Remember, you need to read a minimum of 5 hours to join our reading party by the end of August. There is quite a few students who have already made it. There is also quite a few students who have a lot of work to do! Remind your parents to sign into their Raz Kids parent account to see how much you have read. Don't have one? They can sign up using these instructions:
Parents can request access to their child's information by simply logging in to Kids A-Z as their child and clicking the "Parents" link in the top right and following the instructions to provide an email address. The teacher will need to approve the email address before a parent can see their child's information.
Make sure you get your parents to sign your sheet explaining the deadlines and dates for things. You will be working on your Ancient Civilization work until the end of the school year!
Here is the outline for all the projects:
All Research and notes due: SEPTEMBER 23rd
Rough Draft of Research Paper due: October 9th
Final Copy of Research Paper due: October 21st
PowerPoint (Google Slides) Planner Packet due: November 4th
PowerPoint (Google Slides) Presentation due: November 18th
We will then be presenting and our final activity will be to create a brochure on our Ancient Civilization.
Parents: Students would benefit if they had their own USB stick or a Google Drive account to save their own work and work on at home.
