Weekly Reflection & Review

Friday, March 20th

Are you a Ketchup or a Pickle?

Once you are done with your language tasks you will be a Ketchup or a Pickle:
Ketchup's are expected to "catch up" on everything by Tuesday so you are ready
to go for further lessons.
Pickles can "pick" a few things to do and then enjoy your weekend!

Some students have not completed ANY of these tasks. Please spend time getting yourself onto Google Classroom and getting caught up. Otherwise, you will have a lot to catch up on, on your own when we get back to school. That will mean a lot of homework for you!

Ketchups: Please get this done ASAP (As Soon As Possible)
1. Math Page 18-19
2. Introductory Flipgrid video
3. Science Labs on moderating sound
4. Watch science videos & read some science books on Epic
5. Practice on XtraMath
6. Post on Flipgrid about their Musical Instruments
7. Google Classroom Friday Writing activity on your first week away from school
Pickles: Pick a few of these to do, and then enjoy your weekend!
1. Mo Williams Art or free art
2. Prodigy or Xtramath
3. Freckle or Spelling City
4. Raz Kids or free reading or Epic
5. Math Games or other games
6. Free time
If you are unsure what some of these things are, you need to go onto the Google Classroom to see what has been assigned for you!

New Fact Master

Congratulations Maranelo on becoming the latest Addition Fact Master!! When we get back to school remind me to give you a prize!

I see many of you practicing at home... Who is going to be the next fact master?!? 😉

Google Hangouts & Flipgrid

Hi Students!!

So, seeing we are now having to talk through the internet I have created an option for you to message me directly!

Just like you login to your Google classroom, you will click on the little grid in the corner to get to your Gmail account.

Click on Gmail! Once you are in your Gmail account you should see an invite from Jessie Chislett on the bottom of your screen or the bottom left of your Gmail account! From there you can "chat" with me and ask me any questions you might have. From 8am-3pm every day I will be available.

FLIPGRID

Some of you have already started using Flipgrid! Thank you!

If you haven't yet.. go to your Google Classroom and find where I posted something about Flipgrid. Click on the link and follow the directions.

You are going to introduce yourself AND share an interesting fact about yourself to get started. Other students in class can view your videos too! And.. you should be able to comment on each other's posts so you can still talk to each other and build community! Remember to practice being positive and showing kindness to each other.

We will be using Flipgrid as we go to share our learning over the next few weeks so please get comfortable with it!

I hope you have gotten started on your tasks from today and are enjoying your science labs! Talk soon :)

How to use a Dictionary

We've been learning a lot of new words and improving our vocabulary. When we don't know a word, we are practicing new skills by looking up the word in the dictionary and using it in a sentence! This helps all students, whether they are English Language Learners or not.

Please watch the following videos if you need help with putting words in alphabetic order and finding them in the dictionary!

There is also a more in-depth discussion around using a dictionary here with pictures!

Your Most Urgent Questions Answered About the Coronavirus

We read and discussed a great article this morning about the Coronavirus from Science News for Students - Click here to read it!  and check out the video on how far sneezes can travel! EWWWW!!

New Science Unit - Sound

We've been doing our "Germs" lab - where we see what happens to bread that wasn't touched at all, had dirty hands on it, hand sanitizer, or handwashing. Here is what the bread looks like today:

EWWWWWW!!!

Also to introduce us to our FIRST grade 4 unit.. here is my buddy... BILL NYE!!

Google Classroom

Just a reminder to continue logging into Google Classroom.

I have posted a few Quizizz assignments on there - you can retry the quizzes multiple times (some I have allowed you to redo 2 or 3 times) and submit the highest one when you are happy with it! Please ensure you are getting yourself signed up and connecting through your Google account, otherwise, it won't link your results to my class!

I will be starting to post some videos for you to watch to introduce you to our upcoming science unit on Lights and Sound. We will be working with Ms. Soltes on this unit to develop our understanding of sound through music. Please remember to check into your Google Classroom on a regular basis to see what has been posted for you in both her classroom and mine!

They will then enter their email studentnumber@sunwayeducation.info (example: 00000000@sunwayeducation.info) and press next:

The next page will ask them for their password. It is case sensitive (passwords were created from their Prodigy logins).

They will then need to click on the little grid on the top right of the screen

And click on the Google Classroom Icon:

Once they have done that, they will click onto Grade 4 to find our Google Classroom. I will be posting assignments on here for them to work through. Their first assignments are to work through some Quizizz quizzes I have added for review! They will need a parents email to connect to as well :)

Words Their Way

We started Words Their Way this morning.

Students began by learning about the different patterns in their words. We wrote the headings on the top of our page and then sorted the words into their appropriate headings based on different sounds or consonant-vowel patterns.

If you are at home, you can sort the words by writing them on a sheet of paper and sorting them into the right categories. You will need me to check and ensure they are in the right spot before you highlight the word patterns so please skip this step.

You can work on writing each of your words into a sentence. If you do not know what a word means, please look it up.

  • For example if your word is "sorry" you could write a sentence that said: I am sorry that I ate all your pizza!
  • If your word is "magic" you could write a sentence that said: I went to the magic show last night.
Please check the words their way tab for more instructions and also your word list. I have sent home a message that includes each students' word list. You will not need anything printed for this, but just access to a computer or tablet to see the words and the instructions.
