Thursday, April 9th Remote Learning Work

Happy Thursday and Happy Save the Rainforest Day! It's a campout day, set up a tent, build a fort, and read about rainforests!

Remember - tomorrow is a holiday... so I will see you on Monday!

Kami How to Video for your iPad: Click here

Remember, you can always print out what I send, write it down on paper, or use Kami - It is up to you ;) - Check out the video under language for more help on how to use Kami ;)

LANGUAGE:

1. Read the Rainforest Calling Reading Comprehension Story - I have posted to Google Classroom for you. There are some questions you can answer after. Your parents have the answer key for you to check to see if you are right! (You do not have to hand anything into me, this is for your own practice!)

2. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Your planning sheets are to be worked on today. You are going to start creating your story!

Step 1: Decide a title for your story - remember to use alliteration like you learned yesterday!

Step 2: Start thinking about cause and effect - remember it all needs to make sense! Go back and look at the previous day's lessons to refresh your memory. You can also re-watch the read alouds too!

If you give a Cat a Cupcake - she is going to think of something related - you can start thinking about anything that is related to cupcakes and brainstorm:
Related to Cupcakes --> BIRTHDAYS! They are related to cupcakes!
--> Being thirsty - that's related to cupcakes, maybe she needs a drink!
--> Baking! - Baking cupcakes reminds her of baking pies - Apple Pies!

***Make sure it makes sense --> Cupcakes likely doesn't remind her of a turtle - what is the connection there?

***Remember - the beginning loops back to the ending.

See video for more support in completing your Story planning. CLICK HERE for Video.

SCIENCE:

I have a Forest Bill Nye for you today! Because we all love Bill Nye! Maybe you can watch this as your are "Camping" if you set up a tent or building a fort (make sure you ask your parents first!)

*** This actually plays into our next unit! Animal Adaptations and Ecosystems

You can also check out this Powerpoint about the different layers of the rainforest! Click to begin the slideshow.

The second last slide is optional: create and describe a rainforest animal - If you want, you could draw and colour your own new rainforest animal :) - I've also included some "How to Draw" videos below of some of my favourite rainforest animals... I got to see my favourite one in real life when I went to Costa Rica! - See if you can find where my favourite one lives for a challenge!

MATH:

You are welcome to practice on XtraMath, Prodigy, Freckle, Study Ladder, or continue in your math booklet. There is no new math today. Please get caught up over the weekend!
