Our Newest & First Multiplication Master & Another Subtraction Master!

Congratulations GIANNA!! You are our first Multiplication Master on Xtra Math!

Also Congratulations to Jayvier who passed Subtraction today! Great job Gianna and Jayvier! Keep on keeping on!

To all of 4A: Keep on practicing! Your hard work will pay off (plus you get prizes from me when we return!)
Hey hey 4A!!

LANGUAGE:

1. Day 2 of Reading Comprehension - posted on Google Classroom for you!

2. Words Their Way: Blind Sort - Do you remember how to do this?
  • Print your words and cut them out, or write your words down on scrap paper (If you want to print your words click your group name below:
  • Find yourself a partner! It has to be somebody who can read your words - so your pet cannot be your partner!
  • Put down your headings/category (top set of words like CVC or Long o, Oddball)
  • Your partner will read the word out to you, without you seeing how the word is spelled. Use your ears and figure out under which heading/category the word belongs.
  • If you are right, the word stays, if you are wrong, the word goes back into the pile. If your buddy doesn't know the answer, they can check your Words Their Way assignment from last week on Google Classroom
3. Read for at least 20 minutes - Your choice: Raz Kids, Epic, or a book of choice!

4. Lastly: You can start working on your "If You Give a _____ a ______" final copies of your books! Please see the following slide show for your instructions. If you need to listen to me going over the PowerPoint, the link is found below.

Write down all of the things that humans need in order to survive. Beside each thing
write down how we are able to meet each need.

So with that in mind, watch the following video and write down all the things humans need in order to survive and how we meet each need. (Please mind the grammar errors in the first one, it has good content though!)

You do not need to turn this in every day! I will mark as we go!

Some Cool Facts! Note they say there is 5 not 4!

Notice that some of the videos say 4 things and some say 5? Some also say different things.. which ones do you think are right? And which ones do you think are the most important?

Charades

Have you ever played Charades before? Ever heard of it? No?

Charades is a game where you need to act out a different thing without making any sounds or talking/singing/etc. We've been invited to play a worldwide game of Charades with our World Pals on Flipgrid!

These are the Flipgrid instructions:

Act out an activity from the list below! When you are done, watch your friends' videos and guess which activity they are acting out by replying to their video!

Building a sandcastleDriving a carOpening a giftShovelling snowSwimmingSkateboardingWalking a dogYogaPlaying a sportEating dinner

If you can think of something else to act out: GO FOR IT! Just make sure you announce it on your video that you are acting something out that isn't on the list - maybe you are an animal? Or you are doing something like getting ready for bed,

To access the Flipgrid for the charades click here - remember you need to login with your school Google account to get on it.

Google Meets

I am glad I got to see a few of you this morning!

I will do live meet sessions for questions and answers, and just to say hi on Tuesday's and Thursday's at 10 am. Remember the following directions when you are joining:

You need to login to Google Classroom to find the Meet Link - I will post reminders half an hour before the meeting goes live and I will start to show the link to Google Meet at 9:55 am - this link will change every single time to ensure that nobody gets into our meeting that shouldn't be there.

You will find the link in this spot of your Google Classroom main page:

Please remember the following things when you are taking part online:

Be respectful of your friends - if you have a question, you can raise your hand and I can see and call on you, or you can type your question into the right-hand side if you aren't sharing your video.

Make sure your microphone is muted so we can't hear what is going on in the background! We ALL can hear you otherwise - same with anything you type into the comment/question section. If you have something private to share/ask - please do it on Google Hangouts.

Lastly, make sure if you have questions - you write them down and/or bring the materials to show - it was great today when Rae-E and Norocos were able to share the pages. If you aren't printing things off, just being able to say - This is from Page 10 of the math booklet, or this is from the Rough Draft of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie assignment also helps :)

Thursday, April 9th Remote Learning Work

Happy Thursday and Happy Save the Rainforest Day! It's a campout day, set up a tent, build a fort, and read about rainforests!

Remember - tomorrow is a holiday... so I will see you on Monday!

Kami How to Video for your iPad: Click here

Remember, you can always print out what I send, write it down on paper, or use Kami - It is up to you ;) - Check out the video under language for more help on how to use Kami ;)

LANGUAGE:

1. Read the Rainforest Calling Reading Comprehension Story - I have posted to Google Classroom for you. There are some questions you can answer after. Your parents have the answer key for you to check to see if you are right! (You do not have to hand anything into me, this is for your own practice!)

2. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Your planning sheets are to be worked on today. You are going to start creating your story!

Step 1: Decide a title for your story - remember to use alliteration like you learned yesterday!

Step 2: Start thinking about cause and effect - remember it all needs to make sense! Go back and look at the previous day's lessons to refresh your memory. You can also re-watch the read alouds too!

If you give a Cat a Cupcake - she is going to think of something related - you can start thinking about anything that is related to cupcakes and brainstorm:
Related to Cupcakes --> BIRTHDAYS! They are related to cupcakes!
--> Being thirsty - that's related to cupcakes, maybe she needs a drink!
--> Baking! - Baking cupcakes reminds her of baking pies - Apple Pies!

***Make sure it makes sense --> Cupcakes likely doesn't remind her of a turtle - what is the connection there?

***Remember - the beginning loops back to the ending.

See video for more support in completing your Story planning. CLICK HERE for Video.

SCIENCE:

I have a Forest Bill Nye for you today! Because we all love Bill Nye! Maybe you can watch this as your are "Camping" if you set up a tent or building a fort (make sure you ask your parents first!)

*** This actually plays into our next unit! Animal Adaptations and Ecosystems

You can also check out this Powerpoint about the different layers of the rainforest! Click to begin the slideshow.

The second last slide is optional: create and describe a rainforest animal - If you want, you could draw and colour your own new rainforest animal :) - I've also included some "How to Draw" videos below of some of my favourite rainforest animals... I got to see my favourite one in real life when I went to Costa Rica! - See if you can find where my favourite one lives for a challenge!

MATH:

You are welcome to practice on XtraMath, Prodigy, Freckle, Study Ladder, or continue in your math booklet. There is no new math today. Please get caught up over the weekend!
